What we DO
Responsible for working with the Health & Nutrition Director in the planning and administration of quality food service under CACFP/USDA guidelines, food and nutrition education, and nutritional health follow-up for children birth to five, pregnant women and families in accordance with Head Start Performance Standards. Assist Department Director and designees in developing, implementing, and marketing health education programs for preschool children and families that promote a lifelong commitment to a healthy lifestyle. To create and distribute food menus based on catering choices given in addition to monitoring the food program for CPCD. To develop and implement quarterly nutrition projects for classrooms. To comply with all Head Start Performance Standards, Colorado Department of Human Services (DHS) licensing requirements and the Colorado Quality Standards for Early Childhood Care.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in
nutrition
nutrition education
or
equivalent major
Expertise to assist staff with children with feeding problems or special nutritional needs
Experience in food service management and/or community nutrition
Experience with children birth to five and pregnant women desirable
Experience in menu planning, including the quantity, quality, and variety of food to be purchased
Working knowledge of basic personal computer applications
Experience in developing and teaching health or related programs to adults
Knowledge of CACFP
Ability to work with and embrace culturally and economically diverse populations
Must be able to maintain the confidentiality of the information they will be handling
Ability to interpret nutrition assessment data, provide nutrition counseling for families, and in other ways promotes good nutrition habits among children and families
Preferred:
Dietary Tech, Registered (DT,R) Certification
